Being a manager is definitely not a walk in a park.

The problem with being a manager.

New managers are often promoted into a leadership position because of their technical expertise and find they have new responsibilities and tasks for which they have no training, things like:

✏️Performance management
✏️Feedback and having difficult conversations
✏️Motivating a team
✏️Delegating work

One of the biggest issues that arise from a lack of training for middle managers is that they can quickly become overwhelmed and struggle to keep on top of their new workload.

Managers often talk to me in coaching sessions that they feel undervalued by the organisation leaders.

Never underestimate the importance of your managers.

A recent Wall Street Journal article included a Gapllup report which shows us that we should not underestimate the importance of managers.

“The results confirmed something Gallup had seen before: a company’s productivity depends, to a high degree, on the quality of its managers.”

Yet still, many companies fail to invest in the role with any significance.

Managers who build teams that feel they are doing valued work and feel fulfilled are an asset but what skills do these managers need?

Definitely not more technical skill, perhaps more soft skills? But which skills specifically?

What about :

  • Motivation
  • Delegation
  • Diversity
  • Acceptance
  • Purpose

Solving the problems faced by middle managers is a key focus of the Managership program.
