Planning for the new year

A new year means new goals, priorities and more.

It's a new year, a new decade and we often feel the urge to start planning.

I have struggled with planning in the past, setting goals that are too broad with no plan on how to achieve them.

As we move into February how are you going with your plans and goals?

Are you as focused as you were, are you meeting your targets, are you still putting in the work?

Or like many of us have you fallen back into old habits and patterns?

Sticking to a plan can be hard and often its the implementation phase where we fall down, we love the idea but the strategies to achieve the results aren't clear.

I have developed a simple way to help me make sure my goals are easy to implement and I'm sharing here in case it helps you.

It's based on my years of working with root cause analysis where we keep asking the question WHY until we get to the root cause of the problem.

When planning I simply switch the word and keep asking HOW until I get to the measurable way I can action my goal.

Let's use a common example of a goal at this time of year:

Losing weight

How - eat less refined food
How - remove refined food from my cupboard
How - set time on Tuesday at 9.00 am to empty cupboard
How - put it in my calendar right now

Its also useful for deciding how you will manage barriers to your success, like when your partner brings home chocolate.....

Whats a goal you have set yourself for 2020?
